Henrik's Coffin Shop
visitedHenrik's Coffin Shop
The workshop of Henrik van der Voort, Vallaki's coffin-maker, located in the southeastern portion of the town. A two-story box-shaped building with a coffin-shaped sign and every window shutter closed tight. It looked closed. It was not closed in any of the ways that matter.
Layout
- Ground floor: An L-shaped workroom containing 13 wooden coffins, a table with four chairs, a hanging lantern, and two well-made cabinets (apparently from Henrik's "better carpentry days"). Henrik's living and work space.
- Second floor: Large drafty room full of cobwebs; stacks of wooden planks; several crates marked "JUNK" (with quotation marks). Six of the crates contained vampire spawn.
History
Blinsky described Milovaj as visiting here frequently in the period after the bones of St. Andrew went missing. There have been no deaths in Vallaki recently that would explain the frequency.
The party entered via a broken back window in Session 12 (Sleight of Hand nat 20; Brother Moro and Sable). Six vampire spawn burst out of six separate crates on the second floor when Sable opened one. Henrik van der Voort was downstairs the entire time, having shouted at the party to go away and then curled up weeping when they opened the door. He said "I don't think anyone can save any of us now" before the vampires interrupted. He has not been interrogated.
All six vampire spawn were destroyed.
In Session 13, the party returned to loot and interrogate. Henrik confessed the teleportation arrangement with Strahd; Merich found and destroyed a teleportation ritual circle scratched into the floor; the bones of St. Andrew were found in an unopened crate. Henrik was taken to the town square and handed to guards.
